Etymology:

This species is dedicated to the Tikunas, a large Amazonian ethnic group, distributed in the Amazonian trapeze between Colombia, Peru and Brazil. The name means “men painted in black” because of their habits of painting their entire bodies with the fruit of the huitoto tree.
